You'll need to navigate to one of the areas that allows you to start a new thread
Like the General category has 2 forums where you are allowed to start a new thread,
Open Discussion and Tech support.

After logging in you can access member only categories, which also contain Forums where you can start new threads... hope that makes sense.

Log in and then click on the Open Discussion or Member discussion depending on whether you want it for members only or to all. Do not click on the shaded or highlighted headers as this will open an unused sub-forum.

Example; click on Member discussion, there are five existing threads. At the bottom of the page you will see ‘New topic this forum’, write in a title and your on your way.

Hi,

I have tried to start a new thread from the home page and it leads to what appears is a broken link. Am I missing a step perhaps?

Using the add to favorites feature
As the forum grows it can become difficult to remember the location of topics or posts that interested you. Perhaps you need to research something and return to respond later.

By marking the topic as a favorite you essentially create a book mark for yourself to return to that topic. You can manage your bookmarks via your user profile page, accessible by clicking your user name near the upper left of every forum page.

Subscribing to a topic
If you are currently logged in you should notice a "Subscribe to topic" option near the upper left of each forum thread you view, just under "Add to favorites". You will also see a check box labeled "Subscribe to topic via Email" below the reply form. Either method enables your subscription to that topic. By subscribing to a forum topic you will be notified by email when a new post is submitted to the subscribed thread.

Tagging your posts
Below the reply form you use to create threads or respond to previous posts you will notice a field labeled "Tags (comma separated)" Tags, not to be confused with markup tags which go in your message, are a way to associate keywords to forum threads or particular posts.

Once a keyword has been associated with a particular post, clicking that keyword tag will display a list of posts related to that keyword. eg; If you've just posted something humorous you might add the tags "joke,humor" Or in the case of Arrache specific topics you might tag your post with "Bessler" to indicate your post does not include non Bessler approaches, or perhaps "water, buoyancy" to indicate the post is related to derivative designs using a water element.

Why register on the Arrache forums?
While the General forum section is visible to anyone, there is a Member's only section that is not visible until you have registered and logged into the forums.

In addition, registered members are able to have private conversations with others using the private messaging (PM) function.

Click here to get registered

Must I remember this incredibly cryptic password?
No, after creating your account and logging in for the first time you can change your password to something more memorable.

If you are currently logged in, you will see "Welcome username" in the upper left. Clicking your username will take you to your profile where you will find an "Edit" link. From there you can change your password as well as other info displayed in your profile page.

Formatting forum posts
For the most part there is no need to use any formatting tags in your posts, you simply type, just like sending an email. However, sometimes you may want more control over how your post will be displayed. To accomplish that, you can use a few select HTML tags.
You'll see a list of allowed tags below the post form...

Allowed markup: a blockquote code em strong ul ol li img.

a The "a" tag is used to create clickable links,
eg;
CLICK HERE

blockquote The "blockquote" tag can be useful when quoting another source,
eg;
They said
and you can quote me on that

code The "code" tag isn't really an HTML tag. It was created so that forum posts could display code that the viewer's browser would normally translate.
eg;

You can make text bold with the tag

em & strong With these 2 tags you can add italic and bolded text
eg; `This is BOLD TEXT
This is ITALIC TEXT`

ul ol and li These 3 tags can be useful for creating lists. There are 2 types of lists, an Ordered List, which when used automatliccly numbers the items in the list, and an Unordered List which just puts a bullet in from of each list item. The List Item tag is used within both list types to indicate an item in the list.

eg; A list of items in no particular order
`

An apple

An orange

`

A numbered list of items
`

An apple

An orange

`

img The image tag as it's called does exactly what it's name implies, includes an image. You specify the image location using a paramter labeled SRC

eg

PLEASE NOTE:
Currently, Arache forum posts can only include images that have been uploaded and are available from another webserver. There currently is no public means of uploading files to this webserver due to size and security concerns. There are however numerous free file hosting services, such as http://www.mediafire.com , http://www.youshare.com and http://www.photobucket.com to name a few.

Depending on your web browser you may be able to copy the image location by right clicking on it. Once you know the URL to an image, you can include it in your post.
