When we apply a sudden force f and move an object through x, the work is f*x.
But when we apply a gradual force f, the work (1/2)*f*x.

From this we can conclude that when you work on system to change its position quickly and release energy slowly, we can gain some net energy from the system.

Balls falling suddenly and then balls being raised slowly may result in net gain of energy.

The sounds people seems to have heard from Bessler's wheel may be because of this. Can members work configurations based on this idea ?

One more thing . . .

Claude here;

"Grimer," some years ago, it was my privilege to be a member of a constructive writing class for essentially illiterate individuals, though several of us were fairly well-versed in English jargon. However, the instructor, a composition professor at University of Washington, and well seasoned in his position there, made certain that every class member be clearly aware that he valued all classmates' work as a valid expression of their thoughts, REGARDLESS of the accuracy of the English delivery used, as such use of the English was NOT his focus!

Well, his heart to uncover the good in each classmate has stayed with me since, and if I do not remember a thing I, and others wrote - I copied and gave out every story written for all to work on corrections together - gaining that insight into the value of allowing for imperfect literacy and valuing the author will serve my good the rest of my life.

Do allow for imperfect *litteracy* here! But, with that same value, mods and all, Do use literacy tools on your computer to make your input *gramatically corect*! [That's Grammatically correct!]

Hi all,

Not so much activity as I'd hoped for on such a forum!

Oh well . . .

I'm Claude Armstrong, Lakewood, Washington -Helloooo Oregon! [You 'Southerners!].

After allowing the "unbalanced devise" atop my shoulders about 18 months to digest the first attempt at a gravity-to-motion rotating engine, it came up with a concept that moves a weight to the top of a rotating "wheel," causing the fulcum-imbalance phenomena that Johann's models used - at least in the concpetual drafts I've put together, and visualized in computer mock-up.

Now, I'm on a quest to find a secretive personality with a bent toward mechanical savvy and gravity v.s. motion insight, who will assist with some focused critiqueing that reflects careful mechanical analysis of this concept, B4 I go further to work on a prototype.

Any takers?

Please use my cra1.rmstrong@gmail.com to give me a bit of info about you, and to reassure me that your intent is to freely provide any detail of this concept to the good of All Human Beings, not a patent lawyer, nor a mega-biz innovation trasher, nor even a stupid government in a English Crown colony called Washington, D.C.!

Really, the concept looks like an excellent point of beginning on a "Gravity Conversion" mechanism, and so far all the search done for months has failed to turn up anything even remotely close to it.

Wish there were attachments allowed here!

I do welcome most any dialogue, so feel free at least to use my e-Mail to make contact. I will tell you up front that this is an OPEN Project, and will be released, IF it proves out, under a public, free-access license. I make no equivocations on that, as a requirement to work on it can be either hard to quash by vested energy interests, or easy to quash when the research is secretive, patented, and closely held, as Bessler well proved by his reticence to freely involve public awareness.

Hi I am Earl White

I've been fascinated by the idea of perpetual motion since I was a kid and I turned my bicycle upside down to work on it. My dad said it was impossible which made the search all the more fun.
I am semi-retired and have my own machine shop and wood shop. I have formal training in machine work and electronics. I have built electric motors and Stirling engines from scratch. I look forward to hearing from any and all members here. I could make parts for members if anyone is in need of machine shop or wood shop services. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Gentlemen,

Very interesting discussion. I agree with everything being said here, and I would like to add one idea. - Bessler probably did not design any of the wheels with the idea of running at any particular speed, he probably just wanted as much speed as he could get! The 54 /26 rpm was most likely a by-product of the centrifugal forces and the
average moment arm of the mechanism being used. If memory serves me correctly, the smaller wheel was bi-directional, which may have limited the amount of offset available inside the wheel because of the idea that it had to run in either direction. So whatever phenomenon caused the rotation speed, it was not without limits and what we are looking for in the way of a mechanism would have it's pivot point somewhere on the centerline in the case of the bi-directional wheel. (this may not necessarily be the case for the uni-directional wheels)

What I do know.

If you take a string and tie a weight to it and make the radius about 5 ft 6 inches and try and swing it at 54 rpm, it is barely going fast enough to keep the string taught at the top of the circle!. This pretty much rules out the free-falling weight theory, as anything that is allowed to free-fall would be pretty hard to control, and even harder to get it to start in an orderly fashion, not to mention the idea that it would beat the machine to pieces in a short time.

Never the less, centrifugal force was in effect in 1712 just like it is right now. so whatever spinning mass Bessler may have used would try to slow the wheel down if the weights were allowed to move too far away from the center as the wheel accelerated. It is my guess that the tapping was a necessary evil, and not the means by which the outer wheel was moved. I think that Bessler was using the inside surface of the wheel for a mechanical limit and/or audible feedback that helped control the speed towards the upper limit of 54 rpm. Without the aid of the limit, the weights would swing out too far and slow everything down. Also, since the tapping was supposedly heard to be coming from the 4 o'clock position on the descending side only, it would follow that at least part of the rotating mass or internal mechanism was not concentric to the outer shell.

That is the only way that the weights or any other part of the mechanism would only tap in one area on the inside of the wheel.

All this being said, I still cannot visualize anything that could be entirely contained inside a wheel and turn on its own for any length of time using only the force of gravity. If anyone has pictures or evidence to the contrary, I would be most eager to know about it.

Curtis,

Some sort of re-cycling mechanism. That's what I'm working on too, although it's hard to get the right sort of arrangement. The design I was working on did not look that good after i gave it some more thought. unfortunately I already had some of the parts made.

The thing that stopped me was reflected torque. I had not considered that the last part of the gear train was still unbalanced and running at a multiple dis-advantage from the gear ratio.

Also the Bessler wheel was not very efficient as far as how much the wheel weighed in comparison to how much weight it could lift.

Gotta go for now and I will keep checking back....

Welcome Earl White,

Though this is a good example of gravity doing work in an open environment, getting gravity to do work in a closed system is a harder nut to crack, it is the hurdle to our ultimate success. The focus of my current research is in utilizing the combined force of 99% of the weights to raise 1% of the weights in a blink of the eye.

Welcome to the forum.

Your planetary observations are well understood, and are always good someone will bring this up from time to time. How to capitalize on this in a mechanical since is a good direction to look at. Keeping an open mind and good observation is key. IMO

Gentlemen,

Very interesting discussion. If I can add my two cents worth-- I was trying to come up with an example of gravity doing "work" It is my understanding that work as it is defined by the physics textbooks is defined as a force being applied to an object and moving it over a distance. See if the following seems to fit the definition. A scientific satellite is launched from earth with the intention of having it pass close by as many planets as possible on the way out of the solar system. In order for the trip to be as speedy as possible, the trajectory was carefully chosen to cause the satellite to pass close behind several planets in an ever increasing radius where the gravitational force of each succeeding planet would for a short time pull the satellite along behind it thereby accelerating the satellite to speeds far greater than were originally obtained from the initial rocket launch. I think the satellite (Voyager) is still proceeding outbound into deep space and the gravity assisted launch was a success.

So the example contains all the necessary ingredients to do work. The mass of the satellite, the distance moved (from earth to outer space) the acceleration involved, and time elapsed. So I would venture to say that work had to be done on the satellite to get it to the speed and distance that it has now attained, and the only other influence besides the initial launch power was the gravity of the other planets.

Ralph,
What is the Global renewable energy accord and which countries have agreed to it? please post a link for it.

Your Oregon ETO program sounds wonderful. Did the example you give allow for all of those credits in one year and if a company can't them all in one year, how many years until the expire? Is the seven year pay back time just for the $18,000 balance? that would mean the company's saving less than $2600 a year of a $256,000 solar system - doesn't sound like a efficacious way to go. Time to get outside of the alternative energy box and implement some new ideas that are much greener and much more cost-effective!

Greetings Richard

I like how you put your last paragraph. What is bad I am normally exhausted by the time I read the forum it becomes hard to think.

No Bull...? both a pun and a question...As to hybrid automotive would opposing helix sets give a smooth enough operation over required RPM of the primary engine...keeping in mind we do not need high rpm because of Inherint torque...the rest is in the fly wheel and transmission;I am refering to the DLF design...As to Utility and the RO design...source energy...thousand gallons of water..no bigger than a common septic tank...we could certainly exceed that if needed..can you see a row of them in action

I find myself wondering about a market for GPF (Gravitational Potential Force) motors in hybrid appplication with EMF (Electro Motive Force)motors...

In my opinion (only) I would make this unique comparison...EMF is to GPF what Transisistors were to electronics...in their day, transisistors were a pretty hot commodity..only here EMF takes the back seat.

so then...EMF is the smaller control to the larger GPF load...

DLF is adequate to current vehicle designs with opposing helix and inherant torque low RPM... You could engineer it to any current vehicle

Does Arrache find merit in the DLF and RO Motors?

Hello Alan

Fair enough..."G=E" so then at least you and I are (armchair physist) really how is that any different than " theoretical physics ". there is curvature of space/time and there are curve balls...I'll throw the later at you...Suppose we Tap the Gravity Grid; Does the world want this new energy? Is it taboo? Is there a market. Bessler sums up the tecnology quite proficiently..."..I fear that when people see it they will say that there really is not much art to it...and that it really isn't worth that much.. We have gravity in Our designs ( not boasting, rather; its a bland fact.) what do we do now? The questions can be rhetorical or postulated..I would like to know if " Arrache" finds merit in my submissions.

Alan.."Perpetual conversion" of energy...There is no conservation laws aginst this that I am aware of....whats your take on that? energy can not be created or destroyed but can be converted...if this is the empirical we face then the scientific community must show us that perpetual conversion is not possible and if they can not...then any conversion that leads to rotation must prove Besslers wheel as a " Perpetual"

Hello Richard

Mine is (LOL) G=E and Einstein's is E=mc2 I think that is why science is afraid of G=E

Another thing is, it takes energy to make a magnet. Energy to make a magnet? Energy can not be destroyed but can only be changed. So if it takes energy to create a force it can be changed back into energy.

This is my belief. G=E

It would be great to design an hybrid engine around the DLF motor or RO motor or both..The acronyms can be gleaned from two design submissions..the reason for this post is to build a concensus. Probably, James..you would be the go to guy on this idea.
Torque and acceleration (horsepower) I would give great effort to this....?

Not much towards the wheel...but an interesting thought. Newtonian physics will be able to (digest) our new found energy source,( gravity); however this does present a problem for relativity....Einstien did not allow for gravity to be recognized as a "Force". In relativistic physics gravitational influence is stated to be a curvature of a space time continuum, and (specifically) not a force...Doesn't it take a force to perform work? that is a real question, please feel free to correct me. need help please..if you know..Perpetual motion is ruled out by the first law of thermodynamics, but it is always referenced as the first law of "closed systems" and I have never seen perpetual motion ruled impossible by the first law of thermaldynamics in an "open system"...in other words Perpetual conversion of energy in an Open System is not impossible, but I can find nothing on this..not even on wiki..can you point me in the right direction.

I've drawn the design on my paint program I am 99.9 percent certain..I find no flaws in this design..I think when you view it you will be as numb as I feel right now..How do I and we proceed
